Welcome back! I hope this finds you well. I am sure a lot of you are aware of the new decisions that have been made for this up coming school year. This was my reaction. Excuse the theatrics that you are about to experience. OMG! What is happening I murmured under my breathe. Everyone now, go to your room while mom figures this whole thing out! Noemi looks to her husband; Hurry do the dishes; you need to cook tonight! Husband turns and says before noticing Noemi's cray cray face, what's wrong hun, you ok? I look straight into his eyes and say heck no, didn't you get the memo? Husband looking puzzled says, no I haven't. I say I need to home school these crazy amazing kids. I Fall to my knees praying as I yelled with a Spanish accent why me!
By this point you hopefully know this story is only half the truth. Yes, I am dramatic but this is not how the situation played out. I hope you had a good laugh. If I started in a Spanish novella then that would have totally been my reaction. My husband and I had a conversation and decided on doing full remote learning for our three children. My prayer didn't go as I described either. I actually went to my room and had quite prayer time alone. I knew it was going to be alright. Yes, challenges will arise. I will find myself putting in a lot of work. Things will be lots of fun too. Not everything will fall in place perfectly. We already made it through five months at home doing the best we can. Our family persevered through tough moments and we have come out stronger than ever. We all made a choice every single morning to wake up with a positive attitude. I can say that I am proud of us. We are alive.
I am not sure if you knew this about me, but I have been a preschool teacher since the early age of nineteen. I tried going toward other careers but it didn't work out that way. These skills have given me the patience and tools I need to be successful in supporting my children now. If you find yourself stressed out or lost in all of this, I encourage you to ask questions. Find someone you trust. A teacher friend to help guide you through all of this. There are a lot of resources online for parents and children. Below you will find websites and links. I would be happy to answer questions you may have as well. We can do this together. You got this. If you are not choosing the option for full remote learning, that is fine too! We should all feel confident that we are making the right choice for our own children. Go with what you feel is right for you and your family.
Later on this week, I will post ideas, favorite learning games and classroom management tips for the whole family. One more thing. Try and use every resource you have. Call your child’s school and speak to teachers and experts that are there to help children and families. Use the internet to research different learning style approaches for each individual child. I hope this lets you know that you are not alone. We all have worries of the unknown. Let's choose to not let that stop us from being positive in any given situation that life throws at us. I know you can do this!
