Moving to North Carolina from Miami was a huge move for our family. Having to adjust from a large city to a small town was a challenge. As we made our life here, new routines were established. I've enjoyed exploring North Carolina's rich history. The mountains are a place where people come to vacation and get away from their busy lifestyles. I wake up every morning to mountain views that are breathtaking. Last weekend we went to Dupont State Recreational Forest. A place where the water is clear and the waterfalls are cold but so refreshing. During the month of June, we start to experience warmer weather and head out and explore lakes and rivers that surround North Carolina. Stay tuned for some great pictures of our adventures.
Tips for your trip
Here are some tips and things to remember when taking a trip to a state park. Especially if you are trekking with little ones. In the mountains it can be hard to predict the weather. Have a bookbag ready the night before with these items. Bring a poncho for each member of the family, these make it easier to hike with instead of an umbrella. I normally make ham and cheese sandwiches and bring some fruit on the side. Water proof blanket for the kiddos and sunblock. Water bottles for each family member. (I freeze them overnight). Don't forget a cooler to leave in the car with some more water and any snacks left behind for the car ride home. If you do not already one, I recommended purchasing or bringing a couple of tree hammocks. They come in handy while you watch your kids playing in the water, reading a book, or my favorite taking a nap. Wear your bathing suits and bring a change of clothes. Make sure to check the location of the bathrooms to always be prepared. I also make sure to keep a homemade emergency kit with items such as ban-aids, Neosporin and alcohol swabs. This comes in super handy since some trail terrains contain lots of tree stumps, rocks and some uphill hiking. Bug spray is a must! One important thing I've learned the hard way is to never wear flip flops and to only wear hiking sandals or sneakers. Lastly, make sure to have fun, enjoy family time, take lots of pictures and relish the mountain views, breathe in the smells of the mountain air.
